Who?
My name is James Porteous, and writing this seems a little too like therapy for my taste.
I am a product design student at Glasgow School of Art, about to enter my final year, and I also have aspirations as a professional photographer. The two do not always make good bed fellows, but I'm not ready to cut the umbilical on either, so until it kills me, I'm doodler, snapper, and daydreamer.
My photographs have featured in The Times, The Herald, Dirt & Mountain Biking UK, as well as numerous well-known mountain biking websites. I have worked for Edinburgh-based Rare Management as official event photographer and programme author at the Fort William round of the UCI MTB World Cup, and have produced commercial shots for Samuel Bruce Workplace Design from their Glasgow-based projects. Additionally, over the past three years, I've acted successively as Photographer, Picture Editor, and Editor of the Glasgow University Guardian, which has received numerous awards and nominations during my tenure.
I've also been named Best Photographer at the Herald Student Press Awards, two years running, and have been a finalist in The Times Young Photographer of the Year, and in the Best Young Photographer category at the Scottish Press Photography Awards.
You can see my work on my proper website - PorteousPhoto.com - but I'll be chucking up shots on here and having a bit of a blether about them too. Feel free to get in touch with me about anything you see here.
If you like my work, then give me a call.
