Biography
My name is James Porteous, and I’m a freelance photographer & journalist, based in Central Scotland.
A passion for mountain biking led to my interest in photography, which has blossomed into a habit that consumes most of my waking hours. While my heart is still very much in bike photography - shooting regional, national and international level races, I’ll happily shoot news, music, or fashion - essentially, anything that might lead to a good photo.
To date, my photography has captured moments from freestyle skiing in the French Alps, to World Championship cycling in the Scottish Highlands, to a private shoot with Scotland’s First Minister. It has also led to being named Best Photographer at the 2008 Herald Scottish Student Press Awards, and to the last 6 in the Times Young Photographer of the Year in 2007
As of November 2008, I have supplied photos to:
The Times
The Herald
Mountain Biking UK
Dirt Magazine
Harvey Nichols Edinburgh
Glasgow University
Fort William World Cup & World Championships
