My name is James Porteous, and I’m a freelance photographer & journalist, based in Central Scotland.

A passion for mountain biking led to my interest in photography, which has blossomed into a habit that consumes most of my waking hours. While my heart is still very much in bike photography - shooting regional, national and international level races, I’ll happily shoot news, music, or fashion - essentially, anything that might lead to a good photo.

To date, my photography has captured moments from freestyle skiing in the French Alps, to World Championship cycling in the Scottish Highlands, to a private shoot with Scotland’s First Minister. It has also led to being named Best Photographer at the Herald Scottish Student Press Awards in both 2008 and 2009, to the final three in the Young Photographer of the Year category at the 2009 First Scotrail Press Photography Awards, and to the last six in the Times Young Photographer of the Year in 2007

To date, I have supplied photos to:

The Times
The Herald
Mountain Biking UK
Dirt Magazine
Harvey Nichols Edinburgh
Glasgow University
Fort William World Cup & World Championships
